Research overview: Currently engaged in a community research initiative that seeks to build pathways of advocacy for pastors, congregations and church governing structures to collectively support female clergy retention within the Presbyterian Church (USA). Through a 2-year needs assessment, this initiative identifies contributing factors to the rise in female clergy attrition during early and mid-career stages. The vision for this project is to promote congregational vitality by supporting long-term vocations for female clergy as they seek to faithfully serve their local congregations.
Specific areas of inquiry:
Boundary permeability and deep-rooted conflict within congregational life
Physical and psychological safety for pastoral leaders
Ingrained gender expectations and practices of parishioners
Pathways of legal, financial and emotional support for clergy
Alternative ministry pathways and career trajectories
